LEGACY
The Angadi story began in the 1400s, when a family of Padmasaliya weavers the traditional
silk weaving community of India - migratedfrom ancestral Warangal to fertile Tanjore

where we had large land holdings and decentralised handloom weaving facilities.
We mostly sold on wholesale to a number of retailers, and the aristocracy across India.”

1800s
The family soon gained repute and came to be appointed
as the court weavers to Serfoji II Bhonsle Maharajah and
other statesmen, who conferred the family with the title,
Angadivals,or the shopkeepers,in deference to their being
the foremost merchants of the area.

Foam seating, electric lamps, and freshly painted white walls - With
Mr. R. K Raman’s thoughtful initiatives, his intricate weaves revealed their
splendour, and the Indian woman’s shopping experience changed forever.

THE LOOM
In 1959, Mr. R.K. Raman represented handlooms
at the International Chicago Trade Fair
“Our fabrics were received with great enthusiasm,
and we secured record orders from American companies,
including Brooks Brothers and Saks Fifth Avenue.”
A calendaring unit - for uniform Madras Checks - Italian
industrial dyeing equipment, and the best dyestuffs from
Germany led to the first modern, integrated handloom
weaving facility of India.
One such innovation in 1969, was to introduce
Tie Dye weaving to silk saris – for the first time
in South India. The other, was setting up India’s
first Dupion Silk weaving facility
TRANSFORMATION
In 2010, Radharaman, with the launch of the world’s first Linen Kanjivaram, launched Advaya, which
transformed the loom, guided by a philosophy of innovation of techiques and the timelessness of textiles.
At the turn of the millennium, in 2001, The Angadi family’s patriarch and the oldest surviving member,
R.K Radhakrishna Chettiar, bequeathed the family name ‘Angadi’ to his grandson Radharaman,
who began his entrepreneurial journey with the opening of Angadi Silks in Bengaluru.
Radharaman launched one of India’s most prominent state-of-the-art textile mills, which starts
catering to design houses in Europe and the United States, including luxury brands such as
Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Armani Casa, Versace and Kravet Couture.

In the same year as of 2019, Advaya launched
the world’s first Benarasi Khadua Georgette saree
Launch of Men’s RTW from Advaya, with a range of shirts,
Kurtas, trousers, jackets that united under a design philosophy
2020 was the year of Alamelu, Contemporary silhouettes come alive cut from exquisite
natural yarns.Alamelu RTW is showcased at select showrooms in India and outside.
